Livingston is in the southeastern portion of the county on the Rockcastle River and close to the historic Wildcat Civil War Battlefield. The settlement was originally named Fish Point and was renamed Livingston Station for James Livingston, an early settler, in the 1870s after the arrival of the railroad. The town name became just Livingston in 1882.
With a population of approximately 400, Livingston is the smallest incorporated town in Rockcastle County but swells to thousands at the annual Homecoming Weekend held on Labor Day weekend.
Music is a big attraction with live Bluegrass music every Friday night at the Livingston Bluegrass Center and open mic country and bluegrass at the Livingston grocery store every Thursday night.
