As with most Interstates that end in a five, it is a major cross-country, north-south route, one of the longest in the U.S., from southern Florida\u00a0to the northeastern point of the\u00a0Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It travels from\u00a0State Road 826\u00a0(SR\u00a0826, Palmetto Expressway) and\u00a0SR\u00a0924\u00a0(Gratigny Parkway) on the\u00a0Hialeah\u2013Miami Lakes\u00a0border (northwest of\u00a0Miami, Florida) to\u00a0Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, at the\u00a0Canadian border.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I-75 passes through six different states. The highway runs the length of the Florida peninsula from the Miami area and up the Gulf Coast through\u00a0Tampa. Farther north, in Georgia I-75 continues on through\u00a0Macon\u00a0and\u00a0Atlanta\u00a0before running through\u00a0Chattanooga\u00a0and\u00a0Knoxville\u00a0and the\u00a0Cumberland Mountains\u00a0in Tennessee. I-75 crosses Kentucky, passing through\u00a0Lexington\u00a0before crossing the\u00a0Ohio River\u00a0into\u00a0Cincinnati, Ohio. In Ohio, the highway runs up the western side through\u00a0Dayton\u00a0and\u00a0Lima\u00a0before crossing into Michigan north of\u00a0Toledo. I-75 runs northeasterly along the\u00a0Lake Erie\u00a0shoreline and\u00a0Detroit River\u00a0into the city of\u00a0Detroit\u00a0before turning northwesterly and northward to the\u00a0Mackinac Bridge\u00a0where the freeway crosses the strait between Lakes\u00a0Huron\u00a0and\u00a0Michigan. Farther north, I-75 approaches the Canadian border at Sault Sainte Marie, downriver from\u00a0Lake Superior, 1,786.5 miles (2,875.1\u00a0km) from its origins near the subtropical\u00a0Atlantic
